Plasterer jobs have been in demand for thousands of years. Even since the ancient times, plaster was often used for building operations; even primitive cultures had houses from sticks or rocks that had been plastered with dirt and mud. As time went by, a more lasting type of plaster was developed, and many structures held by ancient plaster can still be seen today. The ancient Egyptians are a good example of plasterer jobs that can still be seen today they are pyramids and other structures. The Egyptians made high quality plaster using calcined gypsum, which is similar to the plaster of Paris used today. The ancient Greeks have structures at Mycenae with plaster made from lime stucco, and fine white powder, and many of their most beautiful arts have used this plaster.
Plastering can be fairly simple to do, but there are a few tools that you will need, most of these tools will work for the many basic plastering jobs. Some of the things you will need are lime, plaster of Paris, laths, lime, hair, and few different types of cements.
Laths are narrow strips, generally made of straight grain wood; these laths are meant to be nailed into with the ends of them butting against each other. The purpose of this is so that the plaster will not crack as easily. Lime is usually used for internal plastering, it is usually added to the plaster when being mixed, and this is very popular amongst modern plasterer jobs. Hair can also be used in plastering; it acts as a binding medium, strengthening the plaster. Ox hair or horse hair is generally used, although some use goat hair well.
There are a huge variety of different plasterer jobs available and some plastering job description will require different methods than others. From pool plastering jobs to house plastering, there has always been a need for plastering throughout history, and there always will be. If you are fairly new to plastering, you may want to learn how to properly plaster first, different structures require different methods of plastering. It would also help to practice plastering structures whenever you can so you will be able to gain experience. Practice makes perfect, and the more you do it the better you will get at it.
